You are what you eat
The old folks once said
If you eat all things bad
You might end up dead
Our food has been changing
In front of our eyes
Boxes with colors
And labels with lies
The meat is quite awful
It does tend to stink
So why do eat it
What's wrong, can't we think?
Or maybe we've changed
And developed a taste
For things that aren't good
And are additive-laced
We eat for convenience
And sometimes for taste
And often we eat
With far too much haste
We often don't know
And really don't care
What's in that nice box
Might give you a scare
If you just took the time
To figure it out
You might come to know
What food's all about
An apple a day
Keeps the doctor away
But junk food for lunch
Could hurt you a bunch
Those nice 'tater chips
Are not really food
They're OK now and then
But not every day, dude!

Ditto for candy
And other snacks too
Don't eat them for meals
That just will not do!
Processed is bad
And whole foods are good
So why don't we eat
Like we did, or we should!
We say there's not time
To worry 'bout food
I'm busy with stuff
And I'm not in the mood
That's what some would say
And they're OK with that
Even though all that junk food
Could make them quite fat
And as they get older
And rickety too
They can't digest food
Or properly poo
So off to the drug store
To get some more meds
To make them feel better
What's wrong with their heads?
We've lost sight of the fact
That we are what we eat
We'd rather eat pills
Than good grass-fed meat
Are those hot dogs still good?
I don't really know
If you knew what's inside them
You might ‘just say no’
If the issue was digital
Or electronic at least
We'd pay more attention
To what's in the next feast!

The good food was made
By some sort of God
But we pay more attention
To the newest i-Pod
And cellphones and laptops
Take up all our time
We're buried with info
From dumb to sublime
So why don't we just
Eat good foods, not bad
We pay no attention
And that's really sad
Just think how we'd feel
By eating good foods
More spring in our step
And none of those ‘moods’
Carrots and 'taters
And onions and more
The fruits and the veggies
They're good to the core
Whole foods in good balance
They're really good eats
Just limit the junk
To 'now and then' treats
If you do, you will see
The results come along
You'll be happy and healthy
And likely live long
Your days will be brighter
And so much more fun
And you'll no longer wolf
down your food, on the run!
